PinotFile 2012 California Pinot Noir All-Americans

December 26, 2012

In his December 26, 2012 issue of PinotFile, Dr. Rusty Gaffney, aka the Prince of Pinot, outlined his favorite Pinot Noir wines of the year. In his 2012 California Pinot Noir All-Americans, the 2009 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir from Oppenlander Vineyard in Mendocino County was named to his Honorable Mention list. His recent review of this wine helped launch it into this ranking for the year:

2009 Oppenlander Vineyard Pinot Noir, Mendocino County: "Lovely aromas of wooded forest, wild berries and fresh cherries. Delicious essence of red Pinot fruits with a savory, spicy, herbal edge. Amazing fruit intensity on a rather delicate frame. Very soft in the mouth. A lighter, redder interpretation of Pinot from this vineyard in this vintage. Hint: If you see “Oppenlander Vineyard” on a Pinot wine label, buy it." (Pinot Geek icon)
