Waits-Mast Family Cellars: Really good single-vineyard, cool-climate pinot noirs are being made by Brian Mast and Jennifer Waits, a couple who found inspiration to make their own wines after attending Anderson Valley's Pinot Noir Festival a few years back.
In 2005, they made their first barrel; two years later they launched their own wines. The 2009s are stellar — try the Oppenlander, Mendocino County, a particular favorite.
Two other pinots hail from Mendocino, and there's one each from Russian River Valley and Santa Rita Hills.
